Days out matter
An estimated 7.6 million children miss out on day trips and time away each year. Missing out on vital formative experiences that help build confidence and develop their sense of space and place in the world. And missing out on valuable memories and moments with their families too.
11 million postcards is a coalition of people who care about great days out - from suppliers and attractions, to family support charities and beyond.
This isn’t just a campaign to do something “nice” for families. It’s rooted in studies and evidence that time away together really matters. It matters now, and it matters for the long-term health and well-being of children and their families. And beyond that, for society and the communities we live in, too.
The steering group is led by just four driving partners who are all committed to great outcomes for children, young people and families, and their access to world-class experiences that embrace nature, heritage, wildlife and all the rich opportunities the UK offers to explore.
Together, our plans are to:
Support change in visitor attractions
Providing support for attractions to pilot schemes such as Universal Credit ticket offers.
Championing social inclusion programmes and sharing resources to make attractions are more accessible to all.
Winning funding to support social inclusion transformation.
Pioneering schemes among smaller attractions.
Driving policy-led change at Government level
Championing “Tourism for Good” to the Government and embed the ethos of accessibility and “tourism for good” with key departments and decision makers.
Government & cross-party endorsement of initiatives that support families and children.
Long-term commitment to support for transformational initiatives.
